"Take A Chance On Me" ABBA Sing-Along @ the Ritz
If you know all of the words to songs such as “Fernando,” “Dancing Queen” and “Knowing Me, Knowing You,” then tonight’s “Take a Chance on Me” ABBA Sing-Along might be right up your alley. Coming just in time for the upcoming theatrical release of “Mamma Mia!,” the smash Broadway hit based on ABBA songs, “Take a Chance on Me” features interviews with local ABBA enthusiasts, obscure performance footage and, according to the folks at the Alamo Ritz, “every single ABBA song you could ever hope for.”
ABBA, which was made up of Swedish power couples Agnetha Fältskog, Björn Ulvaeus, Benny Andersson and Anni-Frid Lyngstad (the four’s initials spell out ABBA), formed through a friendship between musicians Ulvaeus and Andersson and hit it big after winning a Swedish Eurovision Song Contest in 1974. By 1983, both couples were divorced and ABBA broke up, leaving a legacy of Euro-pop treasures in its wake. — Shannon McGarvey (Originally featured in the Austin American-Statesman and on Austin360.com)
